{"id":4021,"date":"2011-06-28T17:05:29","date_gmt":"2011-06-28T09:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/winkle.loc\/artscience-museum-singapore\/"},"modified":"2011-06-28T17:05:29","modified_gmt":"2011-06-28T09:05:29","slug":"artscience-museum-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winkle-picker.com\/zh-hant\/artscience-museum-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"ArtScience Museum, Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winkle-picker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ArtScience-1-768x725.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"725\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winkle-picker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ArtScience-1-768x725.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.winkle-picker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ArtScience-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>One of the latest additions to the Marina Bay skyline and Singapore\u2019s cultural landscape is the ArtScience Museum. <span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">Its self-proclaimed iconic architecture is intended to house \u201cblockbuster\u201d temporary exhibitions on \u2026 well anything that can be linked to art or science.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">Designed by Moshe Safdie, the building form is intended to represent a lotus flower or, in the words of Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson, the welcoming hand of Singapore. It promises 21 galleries with a total area of 6,000 square metres. <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">The permanent galleries in the upper levels of the building set the museum\u2019s conceptual stall out in an exhibition called \u2018ArtScience: a journey through creativity\u2019. Divided into Curiosity, Inspiration and Expression, they provide a cursory impression of the ways in which art and science are linked.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Quite reasonably, they aim to provide a taster of the subject intended to whet the appetite. But given that these sections anchor the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>raison d\u2019etre<\/em>of the entire enterprise they feel curiously empty calories, particularly as the ArtMuseum itself is constantly referred to as genius on the par with the likes of Leonardo da Vinci.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>I don\u2019t know the answer to \u201cWhere do Art and Science meet?\u201d but I am pretty sure that getting the masking right on a simple slide projection to include the whole question would be a good start.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1860\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winkle-picker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ArtScience-6-copy.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"285\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinabaysands.com\/museum.html\">ArtScience Museum<\/a> was running three exhibitions when we visited \u2013 \u2018Dali: mind of a genius\u2019, \u2018Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds\u2019 and \u2018Van Gogh Alive \u2013 the Exhibition\u2019 \u2013 which I will be reviewing in subsequent posts.
