It’s been nearly a year since the Taikwun Centre For Heritage & Arts opened in Hong Kong, and we thought we’d take a look at what views on Taikwun the most important people – the visitors – have, especially about the heritage interpretation. 89% of respondents on TripAdvisor rated the overall experience excellent or very good. Here is a selection of views on Taikwun from those visitors ….

“This is an absolute “must see” if you have a two or three hours to spare. The old police headquarters has a small museum of pictures and descriptions of the origins of the HKG police force – fascinating! The old penitentiary shows where the prisoners were kept, worked out, punished, fed, what happened during health crises, etc. very interesting. All in all this place has lots to do and see, and is free! Don’t miss it!”

“This is a great restoration and reuse success story. The old Hong Kong police station and barracks are perfectly adapted to be a museum, art gallery, restaurants and bars.”

“Exploring Tai Kwun was a wonderful experience, our only mistake was not allowing enough time to discover all that it has to offer, all up we only stayed for one hour. Tai Kwun is fun to explore, to walk through the old prison cells, learn what life was like on the inside by reading the very informative boards and watching the visual displays.”

“As a former employee of The Walt Disney company and responsible for design and construction of HK Disneyland I can honestly say that they have applied very tasteful and thoughtful design to this old world gem. I suggest you spend a fair amount of time in the museum portion (free) as they present in both English and Chinese an amazing historical retrospective of older days in HK (including war, riots, typhoons, etc) in addition to the history of the development of the police station property.”
